Hello everyone,
My 2017 W213 E220d Mercedes E-Class has a problem with the panoramic/standard sunroof.
Unfortunately, the glass panel won't budge an inch or two when I attempt to open it, and the roof blind opens and closes without a hitch.
What I have verified and taken note of:
I did not see any dashboard warning lights pertaining to this.
It would appear that the blind motor is functioning properly.
It happens every time I attempt to fix it.
Here are my enquiries:
Does it seem like a software/initialization problem or a mechanical one (sunroof motor, regulator, cable)?
Has anyone found a solution by resetting the device? After a power outage or battery change, I've heard that Mercedes sunroofs occasionally require re-initialization.
A roof that locks itself out as a safety feature could be the result of a clogged drain.
When comparing the costs of diagnosis and repair at a main dealer and an independent specialist, how much should I expect to pay?
We would be extremely grateful for any guidance or information you can provide. Please let me know if you require any additional information.
I am grateful.

Holding the close button in the close direction for a few seconds while the engine is running might help. Then, try opening it.
Check for a fault code as the next step.
Best of luck

I have no problem with this model, but I have dealt with stuck sunroofs for decades on end in SAABs, BMWs, E39s, E60s, and S212s and S212s. Before purchasing, I always make sure to check the sunroof's capability....
Do you know whether you've attempted to hoover up the 'cracks' or holes in the mechanism?
Do you have a little lubricant that you spritzed into the overall mechanism?
The lubricant turns out to be PTFE, or polytetrafluoroethylene, rather than WD40 or another similar substance. Moreover, it should not cost a fortune.
Is the engine running when you try to press the button, as Wighty suggested?

Are you new to the car? I was wondering if you still have the warranty.
