In just a few hours, I will be boarding a 30-hour ferry to Bilbao, the first stop on my European adventure. I expect to arrive on a weekend when the temperature will reach the mid-to-high 30s.
Please keep me in your prayers as I make it through a 30-hour ferry ride and through the other side in a hot car.

There are some beautiful, reasonably priced hotels in Spain (except for the one in Santiago de Compostela), so I hope you've become an Amigo of the Spanish Paradores to take advantage of their special deals on overnight stays and more.

We took a non-air-conditioned Ford Cortina from Santander to Marbella in 1978; actually, my dad drove. I perspired slightly.
Currently, I only visit northern regions of Spain, such as Rioja and Costa Brava, and I bring all the modern conveniences with me.

A few years ago, I took that journey for the first time in the Bentley. I will never go on another trip as dull as this one. The route from Calais to the north of Spain is much more appealing.

It takes around 24 hours and an overnight crossing across Santander.

For some reason, I've never been truly seasick before, and that was on both sides of the Bay of Biscay.
