I am thinking I might need a replacement 12 volt battery for my 2021 Fiat 500e since it is getting close to 5 years old. Last night, I was stuck in Park and couldn't get the car out. When I tried to shift into Drive or Reverse, the gear would simply revert to Park. Based on what I've read, the 12 volt battery could be to blame; however, after leaving it for a few hours, it resumed working OK. Is it true that all battery changes must be performed by authorised Fiat dealerships, as stated in the online handbook? Could I handle it on my own? Alternatively, see an expert in battery repair. Please advise me on a high-quality 12v battery that will work with the 500e.

If the vehicle would enter "ON" mode but not "RUN" and the voltage on your lighter socket gauge was less than 13.5V, it might be the 12V battery.
Invest in a £30 Ancel.com BM200 (it's also available on Amazon) that continuously tracks the 12V, allowing you to check its status whenever you want.

Full charging voltage is typically applied to the 12V whenever the car is on, ready, or charging, and it is replenished every 2am if it drops below 12.6V.
Wear and tear is likely to blame if it still runs low after all that charging.
If you ever need to replace it, just get the cheapest battery. Compared to inexpensive flooded cells, expensive AGM isn't a good choice because of how it handles heat.

A longer warranty is one reason to spend more, but a cheaper one will probably last just as long in a 500e because it's not used nearly as much as a petrol car.
You can charge it and change the batteries on your own, just like any gas-powered vehicle.
