Great to see all of you.
I have to admit, I'm here for a very particular reason! Please remove me from the forum if the moderators feel I've crossed the line by posting questions like these. I apologise in advance.
Not a Kia, but an electric vehicle nonetheless.
An MGS5 Trophy, that is.
A car almost ran me over three weeks ago on the M25.
We narrowly avoided a collision because I responded with the right amount of braking.
In the blink of an eye, my vehicle shifts into emergency stop mode.
Going forward, the emergency stop will not be stopped no matter what I do.
We are hit (and then some) from behind just before we stop completely.

Things related to insurance and the like have been piling up since then, unrelated to my car. Everything is ongoing. The vehicle is salvageable.

But the way the car acts when in emergency stop mode is really worrying me. This is the intended behaviour of the system, according to my dealer, with whom I've since spoken. Furthermore, the emergency stop was impossible to bypass.

It's comforting in a way, but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone if it left me stuck on the M25. There was a real risk that we might have been killed; it is terrifying.

When it comes back to me, I have to decide whether to keep the car or go to a different manufacturer, which would be expensive but worthwhile if a different car would act differently in that scenario.

The fact that my wife and daughter have no interest in returning to my MG is understandable. It would be a waste of time and money to undergo all that change if every Forward Brake Assist (emergency stop bits) worked the same.

So, I was wondering if the EV3's (or any Kia EV's) Kia system acts differently. When there is no longer any danger, can the driver still use the emergency stop?

As previously mentioned, we all feel like we narrowly avoided something three weeks ago, and I'm writing to the NCap folks to share my story. Our lives were put in danger by a safety system that was meant to keep us safe.

I would be at the dealership tomorrow if anyone here told me that a Kia wouldn't have gotten me into this mess like the MG5 did. Thank you for taking the time to read this! (I understand that my S5 hasn't been returned to me yet.)

Have other owners (forum members) brought up similar concerns? That's my first question.
In my sixteen months of owning an EV3, I've experienced the collision alert twice; both times, the offending vehicle was a passing vehicle.
I get the impression that the car wasn't pleased with the other car's trajectory because of the audible warning and the vibrating steering wheel.
When I was pulling out of a parking spot, the only time the brakes slammed (and I was frightened) was when someone dashed across the rear of the vehicle.
Other than that, I'm afraid my knowledge is limited; I'm sure other owners have more insight into how the system operates.

Like you, I've had this experience; it's not life-threatening, but it does happen. One thing I would add is that when you're using auto-regen, it can apply a light brake when you're turning left and another car is waiting to turn right. It's almost like the EV3 thinks you're going to T-bone the other car, but it's still mild and can be easily disabled by pressing the accelerator.
On the whole, it's not like braking in an emergency on a highway.

No emergency breaking during the 18 months of driving the EV3. During my search for a new camera 18 months ago, I came across some YouTube reviews in which the reviewer complained about the camera's overly aggressive emergency breaking. Could it be worthwhile to look at some reviews that are a bit more current?

I have had the same experience driving a Niro 4 HEV as ianv. Not much to worry about, other than attempting to park too near to a wall and the brakes slamming on!

Before the crash, the driver in the rear should have been able to come to a complete stop. On any given road, an emergency stop could be necessary at any given moment. The driver was either not paying enough attention or was extremely near to your car because this happened on the M25, a road that I am very familiar with. The likelihood of the collision was higher if those two factors were considered together.

I don't understand why, after you responded by braking, the car's safety system applied the brakes in an emergency, given that the eejit had cut in too soon after passing you.

When the car in front of me came to a complete stop, the sportage's emergency braking system and I were able to react in perfect sync; the pedal was going down as I pressed it. I was doing about 60 mph in the outside lane of a dual carriageway. As expected, the brakes came off when I let go of the pedal. If I hadn't been paying attention, the emergency brake—which I really like—would have prevented a collision. No one is responsible for what those behind you do or don't do. Maybe they could have avoided hitting you if they had emergency brakes.
