Greetings, all! My father-in-law claims that his 2008 Kia Ceed Hatchback (licence plate 68) had a front collision warning system that would 'beep' when it sensed an impending collision, and he claims that this happened while the car was in drive mode. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.

He claims that this function has abruptly stopped functioning and does not sound an alarm when he approaches an impending danger (for example, when he began to approach the wall at a slow pace, the car would sound an alarm).

My father-in-law is adamant that the car has this feature, so he took it to KIA, but they said it doesn't. It's clear that something is wrong. How can I verify if his exact vehicle has this front collision detection system?

Is there a misunderstanding regarding front parking sensors and forward collision warning?

For the former, you'll need the radar, a flashy black rectangle in the bottom grill (and a pretty penny!); for the latter, you'll need the small circular sensors in the bumper.

You can check the settings to see if it has it or not, but it won't activate unless you're driving slowly towards a wall, so I'd say it has parking sensors and not collision avoidance.

Unless you're going over a certain speed limit, the parking sensors may require you to press a button before they activate.
There may have been a change to the settings in the dash (2 pages menu option) if it has FCA.

The correct query would be "are the front parking sensors not functioning?" at this point. Someone else mentioned looking in the settings for a way to have it activate automatically at low speed.
With an occupant in the vehicle, put it in reverse and listen for any beeps if the vehicle has front-mounted sensors. It is a defect if this fails to function. Under the warranty, four ultrasonic sensors were replaced on my 2022 Niro.

If he is driving forward (not reversing) at low speed with an obstacle in front of him, does the button need to be activated (I believe it has a P symbol on the center console) or will it still beep if the button isn't pressed?
