Issue with the tailboard actuator. Is it? The question is that.

this is a little out of the ordinary. After searching the forum for "actuator," I came across numerous threads describing various problems with them, such as doors not locking, etc., but I couldn't find anything regarding an intermittent fault.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my remote app was alerting me that the boot was not locked. After leaving the golf course in a state of panic, I went back to the car to discover the tailboard closed but unlocked, even though all the other doors were locked. I found it odd, but I didn't give it any more consideration; after that, I was perfectly fine.
And then it occurred once more. It happened once, then it didn't. However, the frequency with which it failed to lock began to increase, and it eventually reached 7 out of 10.
I went to AI, and they said it was probably an actuator issue.
On the other hand, I called a local independent who confirmed my suspicions and advised replacing the latch in addition to the actuator. I brought it in for repair yesterday after they ordered it. I went outside to the locked vehicle and demonstrated to the office worker how to open the trunk.
They contacted me an hour later to inform me that the workshop had failed to reproduce the issue, despite repeatedly opening and closing the device. Each time, it locked. Plus, there was no indication of a diagnostic fault code.
They expressed reluctance to alter a component that may not be directly responsible for the problem. I then stated that I would give it a few days to think about it. It only took a few days; upon my return home, it stubbornly refused to lock once more, and now it's completely erratic about whether or not to do so.
So, has anyone got any ideas? Can anyone tell me what to do because this seems like an intermittent fault? It might not be the actuator at all; it might be a sensor. I could really use some guidance or suggestions.
Lastly, although it is a large independent retailer that focuses on LR and RR, it is not a main dealer.
