Hey there!I recently returned from vacation and discovered that my CLK 280's key fob isn't working.
Despite pressing the button, nothing happens, even though the LED lights up. I went ahead and changed the batteries anyhow, and nothing has changed.


I also attempted to open the door using the key blade, which is the emergency key, but that was unsuccessful as well. Is there anything you can think of that might be the source of this?

It seems like the key fob isn't working to unlock the car or turn on the sidelights, at least in my opinion.
It seems like you're dealing with two issues.
To start, the remote unlocking feature is inoperable due to a dead battery.
Second, something crud has probably jammed the door lock mechanism. Personally, I've found that the metal key 'always' opens the driver's door and sets off the alarm, so there's no need for any kind of electronic device.

There are a few things I would do differently in your shoes:
1. After applying the appropriate lubricant to the door lock, continue turning the key in a back-and-forth motion until the lock opens. To maintain the mechanism in excellent condition, apply graphite spray.

2. See the key hole in the boot lock—it's located on the underside of the boot release handle—and try using the metal key to open it. Apply some grease to the lock if you think it will help loosen it. Once again, the CLK is battery-free and mechanical. To access the battery charger, remove the back seats, crawl through the opening in the boot, open the doors, and finally, the bonnet. The gentleman with better upholstery might have to track down an appropriately diminutive human to pull this off.

PS. You must insert the metal key all the way into the lock before turning it, in case you have never done it before.

I am grateful for the response I don't understand why this key won't open the driver's door or the boot; it doesn't appear to go very far. Is it still a valid key?
