It's pouring outside, so I won't be able to enjoy this information. I'll check it out tomorrow.
So, I'm assuming there's a relay for the heated washer jets—maybe it's dead—and the rear view mirror (auto dim) are both on Fuse 35, according to some other information I found.
I have placed an order for a Haynes manual from a UK company, so I am hoping that it will also include schematics.

Best regards

I finally found it! The Bentley manual is in a disorganised format, but maybe you can open it.

Near the fusebox, there appears to be a powerfold driver unit that could be shorted, but...
There is no powerfold button on the center switch by the gear lever, but there are more tin mounting clips than are necessary in the hole at the bottom of the switch. It seems like the previous owner swapped out the power fold unit for a regular one because it was acting up (hopefully). At the weekend, I will change the door brakes, so I can check if the mirrors are seven-pin (powerfold) or five-pin (normal, non-powerfold). If not, I will search for a short in the spaghetti wiring.

I don't care; the important thing is that I'm enjoying myself.

Using a blown fuse and some wires from a tail light, I constructed a light indicator to visually indicate current drain or short. When I plugged it in, a bright light came on, indicating a dead short. Aside from the door looming at the A post on both sides, the bright light persisted even after I disconnected the mirrors. My mirrors only had five wires, so I knew they weren't power fold. I was worried that might be the problem.

was a great help with the diagrams and information. I discovered that the heated washer jets and the heated mirrors are on the same circuit, so I turned off the washers and the mirrors once more. The light went out, sort of. It still burnt dimly, so there must have been some drain on the circuit. I find it strange that the heated mirrors, washer jets, and auto dim rear view mirror are all powered by the fuse and activated whenever the ignition is turned on, not only when the heated screen or rear screen is turned on (why?), so the light will be dim because there is only a small amount of current flowing. I was disappointed to see that this is not included in the Haynes manual's CDs.

It turned out that the driver's side washer jet was dead short, so I disconnected it and then reconnected the rear view mirror and the light came on brightly again. It took fourteen pounds to fix the problem.

What a painstaking ordeal for such a minor problem! Just think about how much easier it would be if you hired a professional auto electrician to fix it. I bet they'd figure it out faster than me.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone further up the road figure it out—and, before anything else, turn off those washer jets!

Well done on finding and fixing it! Somebody, someday, will benefit from this.

In terms of how well the vehicle runs, yeah! Even in its stock form, that little TriTec produces more than 1 horsepower per cubic inch, making it a high-performance engine. For the amount of enjoyment and performance I get, I have no problem shelling out for premium petrol, or petrol as it is more commonly known in the civilised world.
