Surprisingly, this top-tier Sportage lacks a kick-under tailgate opener, unlike the majority of my previous Honda Crvs. Does this make sense?

In the settings menu of my 24 gtls, you have the option to enable automatic opening. As you stand behind the vehicle and open the tailboard, it will detect the key in your pocket. After several instances of standing around waiting for it to detect the key, which it failed to do on multiple occasions, I decided to turn it off because the opening was a little erratic.

My guess is that it won't work unless the car is locked! Honestly, I haven't had any issues with mine and have even found it to be useful.

Up until this point, we haven't encountered any issues with our usage of this.
Well, there was one issue that wasn't really an issue. While waiting for friends to come out of the other side of the parking lot, I parked at the neighbourhood recreation center. I went back outside after getting inside because I received a notification saying the tailboard was open. It was true that the tailboard was ajar. My brain needed a few moments to process what had transpired. Since I waited near the rear of the vehicle, the automatic door opener would have been activated. My companions who were facing the vehicle and I were both oblivious to its opening, and the mystery remains to this day.
