Problems Starting

Post by ChrisDavies » Tue Oct 08, 2013 4:56 pm

Thought I'd have a go, I have a 1500 Midget, when I turn the key the engine will constantly turn over until I release it and then it will fire and run. (It will not run until the key has been released)

Any ideas?

One possibility is a dodgy ignition switch not supplying power to the coil in the start position.

You can check this with a voltmeter or a 12v test light between the input to the coil and earth. Have somebody turn on the ignition. the meter should show about 12v or the light should light. Then try to start the car. If the voltage disappears or the light goes out, there is your problem.
